BROOMLANDS RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT, MIDDLESBROUGH - Modular

Broomlands Road in Middlesbrough is the location of a new residential development of three buildings, each of them three storeys in height.

Originally conceived in blockwork and timber, developers Gold Properties opted to use light steel framing instead as a solution for the complex roof shape which could not be done easily using other building techniques.

LA Elwell, in conjunction with Metek Building Systems, made a light steel superstructure based on a cross wall design.

These were made and then installed by Metek as the load bearing steel framing of all three buildings in just five months, allowing for a phased handover.

The framing system produced a structural performance substantiated by tests, as well as a faster speed of construction and increased site productivity.

Metek also found that using steel framing led to a safer construction process.
